  • Apothecary Carboys

I saw these two ornate glass stoppered vases in the bay window of a shop in Sheringham. These carboys, filled with coloured water, were the ‘trade sign’ of the old fashioned chemists. In the picture you can see how they sat in each corner, the yellow vase is apparent in the main shot. I took some photographs of the yellow jar too; isolated and placed it next to the red one. I bent the background through the vase to suit the refraction. Also in the collage is the central walkway in the new covered market in Yarmouth. One can see the pattern of white oblongs of sunlight from the roof above. I have reduced its opacity to blend in with the composition. I used a filter on the carboys and introduced the ‘sparks’ of sunlight.

  • Untitled No.77

This is a jigsaw montage of the outside walls of the Belgium Monk restaurant/bar. The exterior of the premises had been scraped in preparation for the application of rendering and decoration. I took photographs of different parts of the building. I collaged, juggled and rearranged the shots together, and cut bits away (for artistic license). I applied a drop shadow to accentuate the composition, and saturated the colours. After moving the elements around, I settled for this result.

  • Coo, Look What The Tide Washed Up

The setting is an entrance plaza to the Venetian Waterways And Boating Lake. The steps lead down to the manmade canals, which has a cafe/restaurant on an ‘island’ in its centre. Built in 1926-28 as an unemployment relief initiative, it was fully restored in 2019. I have cut away the park which was beyond the steps unseen. I inserted the water and sky that I photographed at Hunstanton, I liked the blue horizon and the cloud stratification. I mirrored that with the horizontal metal strips that were photographed at another entrance to the lake, and montaged them to the bottom of the picture. I placed the coloured marker buoys (Sheringham) in the entrance and purposely magnified their size. I included the boat which is relatively smaller to the buoys and the setting. the boat was on a muddy embankment in Blakeney harbour. Finally, to complete the composition, I included a second set of buoys.
