Beyond The Pale

Beyond The Pale

I always inevitably start with one scene/object/situation, from which I build the picture without any preconceived route to the final image. The start here was the viewing platform made of wooden decking. This was at the Wakehurst botanical gardens in West Sussex. I visited the park with my Mum, sister Anne and brother-in-law Chris. Beyond the picket fence was a wooded area on a slope. I have erased that from the original photo, even between the fence posts. Then I had the perverse idea of introducing Stonehenge (recently visited) although there’s no relation size wise. You might notice some barrel shaped seats beyond the stones that were on the platform.I ‘removed’ quite a few of them from the original photograph. Lastly I extended the canvas size and included the landscape from the north west of Scotland for the backdrop. Beyond The Pale. The pale was the perimeter in Ireland, of English jurisdiction, fenced off against what was considered outside of the law. The title has no relevance to the image, it just came to me upon completion.
